When to replace a wraparound deck
When you build a wraparound deck with Krueger Brothers, you can expect it to last for decades — especially if you use composite materials! Still, it’s wise to keep an eye out for signs of deterioration:
- Scratches or abrasions in the deck’s surface
- Rot in older boards
- Damage from insects like termites
- Unstable footings (especially if you can no longer see the concrete footers)
- Sagging, splintering, or warped boards
- Large gaps in between boards
- Discolored planks, from years in the sun
You can fix surface damage, like shallow chips or scratches, using a deck repair kit. Deeper damage (for example, insect rot) will require a complete replacement.
Before you try any repairs at home, be sure to check with the manufacturer of your materials. Composite decking from Trex needs different treatment than decking from TimberTech — and both are vastly different from natural wood!
